Match Strategy
Strategy and match analysis pair with scouting to form both quantitative and qualitative data points. Although game objectives shift every season, certain terms remain central to FRC match analysis, regardless of game theme.
Terminology
Section titled “Terminology”- Ram: The action of purposely driving into another robot as a defensive maneuver.
- Block: To obstruct an opponent’s path, scoring location, or shooting angle.
- Auto: The first section of the match, typically ~20s long, in which the robot operates entirely without a driver and operator; hence the name.
- Endgame: The final phase of the match, in which robots must be manually operated. It usually has different conditions from the rest of the match.
- Teleoperated: The main (and usually longest) driver controlled period of the match.
- Alliance: The side of the match (red or blue) composed of 3 teams that work together. In earlier rounds, they are together for that match only, but they are finalized for playoff matches after alliance selection.
- Alliance Selection: The draft-style selection of alliances where alliance captains request for the preferred team to join their alliance, and said team can accept or decline the offer.
- Throughput – The total scoring output over time.
